I unfortunately forget this woman's name. She is a LCC student who survived 3 and a half years of incarceration. She told a general story of prison life for women. Not a story you hear often, and is rather tragic, especially in women having access to their children. Quite horrifying stuff. Oddly, Indians didn't have prisons prior to the invasion and conquest. So if any of you reading this are able to help, do what you can to help out with women in prison.

In case you haven't noticed, the above four pictures are of John Trudell. Shusli surprised me when she came home from work with wanting to take me to see John Trudell speak at Lane Community College.

So, I basically skipped going to see Diana Abu-Jaber speak at Coos County Library. I still can't believe it, a class act like Diana coming to a podunk town like Coos Bay. I would have never thunk it. Then again, I didn't think there would be a Lebanese restaurant in this town nor a progressive coffee shop either. This town is full of surprises. I am really enjoying your book "Crescent," Diana, but I have to have my priorities straight (besides, I got to spend four hours in a car with a really hot nurse as well as got to hold her hand and do some shopping with her, too).

Back to John. Shusli and I have seen John more than a few times. We've also read a lot about him, watch his stuff on YouTube, etc. I really didn't expect John to say much that I haven't heard him say in the past...

WRONG!

John is full of surprises!

He was really quite goofy, and maybe quite high, but his voice rang through with clarities that have both Shusli and I thinking. Although we're not exactly sure what it is we're thinking, we are feeling different since seeing John last night.

I'll try not to ruin what he said too much, but we liked what he had to say about how civilization is resource extractive leaving much pollution and damage to our eco-system. Civilization mines human beings like resources leaving much pollution and damage that comes through in the form of fear, insucrities, etc., which helps manipulate us into enacting or enabling the continued resource extraction from our earth. Did I do good there? Sounds much better and is easier to understand when John says it.

He also mentioned how guilt sin and blame in the concept of "original sin," meaning you are guilty by the simple act of being born. This guilt is then used against us in getting us to believe in authority, others having power over us. We all pretty much know what happens then.

But the thing that caught us most was his reminder that we have power. Life is about energy and we are all energy. We have power to do something and we are creative. We have bought into a superficial system. Buying into it gives it our power. What are we gonna do with our power?

Happy Anniversary Beautiful

May 1, 2006 was the first time I met Shusli at a Carrie Dann lecture in Portland, Oregon.

Happy Anniversary Beautiful!

Yep! U.S. Out to Commit Genocide Against Iranians

The U.S. is deploying another aircraft carrier to carry out strikes against Iran in another imperial genocidal war against folks who just won't hand over their resourcse to wealthy corporate oil firm heads. They don't do that type of shit unless they are planning something.

They planned the U.S. first genocidal war against Iraq at least since the Nixon administration, but Stormin' Genocidal Norman performed 7 military exercises from '87 to '91 prior to the first criminal U.S. war against Iraq headed by GW's daddy. 4 of these exercises involved an Iraqi invasion of Kuwait. ["The Fire This Time: U.S. War Crimes in the Gulf," by Ramsey Clarke].

The only question that remains is when is the U.S. gonna start the mass slaughter phase and are they gonna use the tired troops from the Iraq and Afghan fronts. They claim no foot soldiers in this illegal invasion will be used, but then again, they said there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. King Dick still claims there are weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

Then again, doesn't matter who steals the presidency. If Killary Clinton steals the top post, I guarantee you that if King Dick and co-King George don't start their genocidal and mass murderous war against Iran, Killary willary.

In what I can only describe as the continued U.S. brutality against one of the truth tellers, Al Jazeera, Sami al-Hajj was arrested and detained in Guantamo for no other reason in my opinion.

After six years and undoubtedly having been tortured (calling it "enhanced interrogation techniques" to keep the ICC off your ass still makes it torture), he has been released.

There were no charges, and thanks to the stupid fucking inactive American populace, no habeus corpus.

Good health to you, Sami, Much Love and Good Health to You and Your family.

Long Live Al Jazeera, the best fucking news service around.

It's Still the End of the World as We Know It! [edit 8:15a]

A few KBR employees have come forward to turn in their fellow employees and admit their own wrong doings before a few Congressional folks.

I am currently reading "Crescent," by Diana Abu-Jaber. In this book, one of the characters, Hanif, recounts to his Love interest what Baghdad was like to live in. He can never go back, and his Love for the city, the description, his Love for the land, his family, the people, are so haunting with every word that the beauty and tragedy of the place pours from the lips like honey from a spoon. I have never heard such beauty described for any American city. "The first smell of the smog of LA." No one laments longingly over such cities in the U.S. with the exception of the priviliged.

And this Beauty has been destroyed. Disneyland is planning on building a theme park there. And treasures from personal to national have been robbed from the people of Iraq like the U.S. stole all the indigenous lands, cultures, languages, people, animals, plants, insects, like they were gods and all belonged to them and that somehow gives America the right to destroy everything.

But some of these people have come forward (like good FBI, CIA, NSA, etc., should) to admit their wrong doing and to turn coat on the other thieves in their ranks who have so joyously destroyed and committed genocide against a nation for their own fucking gain. American higher ideals, there has never been such a thing.

Israel is observing "Holocaust Day?" To me, this is rather ironic.

In the book "The Secret War Against the Jews," by John Loftus and Mark Aarons, I'm told (it is on my shelf and list of reading but I have not read it myself as of yet) goes into detail of how many higher class Jews sold out their poorer brethren by giving their names and addresses to the Nazi's. These names were put into IBM machines for quick processing and rounding up of the lesser folks. The higher class sell-out Jews were offered safe passage and many went to Palestine to help start the nation currently known as Israel.

Israel, of course, is committing genocide against the Palestinians, has done nuclear medical experiments on hundreds of thousands Sephardic Jewish children, doing medical experiments on South African children, etc.

Israeli's also hate survivors of the Nazi Holocaust. Their theory, "No good Jew survived the Holocaust." You see, folks had to do some pretty horrible things in order to survive the death camps. Forced labor and slavery, you know, like America has done to the indgenous, blacks, Chinese, Irish, etc.

So, other than publicity, I would have to say that Israel's memorial to the Holocuast, especially since many of the power holders in Israel won't admit there were others slaugthered in the Holocuast (like 1.5 million Sinti and Romani), I just have to say that this memorial is rather disingenuous at best.

Katie Couric seems to be jumping on the racist bandwagon in producing an unsubstantiated and racist piece allegedly focusing on illegal immigration which we all know to mean, "Anti-Mexican," or more to the point, "We Don't Want No Dark Folks from South of the Border."

"One gaping hole in the news story involved a hospital administrator’s statement that the facility has “uncompensated care of over $200 million a year,” which the reporter tied to emergency room care for non-citizens. But how is that known if the hospital does not verify citizenship or legal vs. illegal immigration status?

"Civil rights leaders also contended Couric’s broadcast was inconsistent, not just because of her brand as “America’s sweetheart” but also because, in June, she is to receive the 2008 Alice Award, named for Alice Stokes Paul, the women’s suffrage leader and author of the Equal Rights Amendment."

Let's not forget, stupid fucking americans, that if you are not Indigenous, you are an immigrant. The dark skinned foreign language speaking folks form South of the border are mostly indigenous and have more of a right to be here than say...YOU! You like to tout the law but only want folks to abide by certain laws. You all don't abide by article six section two of your constitution.

Obviously, the Alice Award is as disingenuous as the Nobel Peace Prize (Henry Kissinger).
----------------

Obama's former pastor is in the news again.

"On Monday, Wright criticized the U.S. government as imperialist and stood by his suggestion that the United States invented the HIV virus as a means of genocide against minorities. "Based on this Tuskegee experiment and based on what has happened to Africans in this country, I believe our government is capable of doing anything," he said."

Now, I've heard the allegations that the U.S. started the HIV virus to slaughter "less desireable" folks. I don't doubt this possibility to be true as the U.S. has been experimenting with making a super smallpox that would be close to if not 100% effective.

Obama, of course, is further distancing himself from Wright. However, Wright just may be right. He is right about the chickens coming home to roost. He is right about racism in America. I say "WRIGHT IS THE RIGHT CHOICE!" Let's vote in Wright for President.

And in case you haven't been paying attention: THE U.S. IS IMPERIALIST! Imperialist meaning that they invade other nations to steal their wealth for the already wealthy of this nation. How do you all think America was founded? Love and kindness? Try genocide and destruction, extinctions and death.
----------------
King Dick and co-King George are still pursuing their illegal and genocidal war against Iranians in order to control and steal all of their resources. Folks, dick and george want Iran. They are pushing forward with unsubstantiated lies because that is all they can use to get the STUPID U.S. POPULATION behind their illegal and genocidal activities. I mean, it worked for Goering! I guess they believe that their "weapons of mass destruction" lie worked, so will the "Iranians are nothing but a bunch of terrorists" lie.
----------------
Oh yeah! And the John McCain health plan will eliminate employer paid group health plans. He claims this will bring down health care premiums. What it seems like it would do to me is to give more profits to corporations that no longer have to pay for health care for their employers. There will, of course, be NO raises for employees that now increase the profits of the corporations they work for. It will also subject folks who would not have health care otherwise to join the rainks of the 43 million uninsured Americans. This would also mean preditory and USELESS health care insurance corporations can charge excessive amounts of money for minimal amounts of coverage. This will also increase emergency room visits with the increasing unemployment, increasing gas prices, dropping value of the dollar, unsustainable wars, etc., draining the local economies. People will have no other health care and not be able to afford to pay the emergency room bills. Universal health care is out of the question for two reasons: 1) It would cut into the profits of excessively wealthy corporations who basically get their money for nothing by forcing us to pay for something that is actually A HUMAN RIGHT! 2) Folks in America won't stand up for universal health care because they allegedly don't want to provide something for nothing. Here I will point out that Alan Schwartz of Bear Stearns received $30 billion in our tax payer dollars because he ran his corporation into the ground using bad business practices. Not only has this wealthy man received billions for losing billions, he is being rewarded for his bad behavior. Alan Schwartz didn't just get something for nothing, he got $30,000,000,000 of our tax paid dollars because he IS A COMPLETE LOSER FUCK-UP! Would you pay a fellow $10,000 dollars in tax money for losing $5,000 of his own money in Vegas?

Of course, many of our congessional members voted in favor of this because many of them had invested in the failing firm.

REVOLUTION NOW!

The Flood of '64

I, as well as Shusli, was born in this hospital. Me in '64, Shusli in 58'. It is here where things begin and return in full circle. Shusli and I were both born here in Coos Bay, Oregon, and have returned here all these years later.

This is where my days journey begins, 44 years ago. "And so it goes." --Kurt Vonnegut

In December of the year I was born, just before Christmas, came the great flood of '64. This is a photo of Reedsport back in that day. A day in which my mother told me all my Christmas presents for my first Christmas were in a closet and destroyed in the flood.
The little tavern sign in the back to the left was one of my family's favorites places to go out and get drunk. If you click on the photo, it should enlarge and you will see the name Rainbow Tavern. This is where, when I was 5 years old, Grandma got in a bar brawl getting an early start on the days drunk. I thought it was so cool, but my mother was dragging me out of there fast. Grandma, never over 5' tall, hovered over a woman she just knocked off a bar stool. "GET UP! YOU WANT SOME MORE! GET UP!"
And in '64 and '65 I made two attempts to escape you all. Sometimes things are just too much, even when you are small. First, I had hydroencephilitis, and it went away on it's own. The doctors said they could do nothing. The next was pneumonia. I spent five days in an oxygen tent. I didn't manage my escapes, and I'm here, dad, grandma, and grandpa, to tell a story of a full circle.

Grandpa's Last Stand He Made Lying Down

I started my days journey looking for your grave, grandpa. Your name was Louis Johnson, and it was said you were the last chief of the Lower Umpqua.

I hadn't been to visit since 1970. April 16, was it. No one told me about death. I had no idea what was going on. I remember sitting in the funeral home in the family section and Pirscilla Butler wailing like Indians do I would learn later. Dad carried me on his shoulders past your casket. I must have been 6.

"What's grandpa doing?" I asked dad when I looked down at your face that had lost its color in your death.

"He's sleeping," dad told me.

"Well wake him up," I asked. "I want to play."

Dad's tears flowed and that was the only answer he could give me.

When we got into our station wagon, that was when I knew. That which they weren't telling me. I knew you were dead, then, and I sobbed, placing my face in the window, wondering what I would do now.
And I remember, grandpa, your big body and how I was amazed that my arms could barely fit around your belly. I remember your Love, the Love you felt for me and dad. The piggy bank you gave me after I became so demanding for it. You wanted to keep it there, I wanted to take it with me. And I cherished that thing, especially since you got mad and it was the only time you got angry with me. But that anger taught me a lesson I will never forget. To cherish the gifts people give you.
You don't have a headstone, grandpa, so I took a photo of the woman buried next to you. Her name is Dorothy Rowe, and I mean no disrespect to her or her family. This is just a marker to remember where you are. Much Love and Respect to you, Dorothy Rowe.
And here you are, grandpa. I made all sorts of prayers and did all sorts of talking to you on my journey from Coos Bay for a visit. And your grave doesn't even have the little marker that it used to. It seems to be a silent momento to the greed our family felt in the money they received for the end of your life, if there even was any. I remember all those years ago promises made to purchase you a stone, but no one ever stepped forward. No one.

And a mystery has erupted in an earthquake that only I felt. I asked the groundskeeper for your gravesite, and he found an unclaimed site on the other side of you from Dorothy. A site claimed in the name of Johnson.
There you are, in the silence. Roxanna said she and Liz visited you many years ago and found your grave on accident, by chance. The little tin marker that is no longer there was then.

I miss you, gramps.

"Douglas" Is My Middle Name

Dad, Louis Wilbur Johnson, told me many stories of Uncle Doug, the uncle whose name I carry as my middle name. I looked over the attendants shoulders as he looked over the ancient maps and lists of names. I saw Doug's name there, grandpa. I asked the attendant there to show me his grave as well. Section 2, grave 39, row 14.
I remember the stories dad used to tell me about Doug. The crazy and funny things he did. He was such a cut up. Something about Indians and humor.
And I remember the stories dad told me about Leukemia.
It was the Leukemia that got Uncle Douglas. You had a lotta land just a few years before when the government told you and the rest of our family you were no longer Indians...that the U.S. lead genocide was now complete. So you sold a lot of that land to try to save Uncle Doug. I was told by my sister Roxanna that you even had a doctor from Germany flown in to try to save Uncle Doug. But it didn't work.

The sad story dad told was how Uncle Doug was so strong and healthy. That he grew so much in the three years dad was gone in the army. And then...he would waste away to almost nothing. It really hurt dad to watch Uncle Doug go. No doubt it hurt the whole family.
And who left these flowers. Obviously these silks and plastic were left a long time ago. My Aunt Alice, maybe?

"And so it goes."

Schofield Creek

It was this creek that you lived on, Grandpa, for sure back in '33 when dad was born. I've been told that dad and a lot of other kids used to jump from this bridge into the creek below. They were swimming all the time.
These are the only house boats left. The last time I was out there was around the year of your death.
There used to be boards down the relics of these walkways.
Now just an echo from the past.
And it was somewhere here that dad told me of a friend who used to live on the creek. It was about to flood, and he had gotten drunk. Afraid of the flood, he piled all his furniture in the middle of the room and sat on top. Somebody, dad maybe, discovered him and couldn't get him to come down. Living on a house boat anchored to a piling gave it cause to rise with the tide and not sink like a house with a foundation. He wouldn't have gotten hurt, but he was too drunk to understand.

And it was here, around July 19, 1933, two days after dad, your second son, was born. Dad was having some serious health problems, grandma told me. An old woman showed up at your door, grandma said. "I had a dream," she told grandma. "Your son was born a blue baby."

"You didn't argue with your elders back then," grandma told me, and let the woman in.

The woman got the stove going and stuffed dad in there. And whaddya know, dad lived.

Was it around here, and I'm sorry to bring the sad memory up, but you are all together in the spirit world somewhere...Was it around here, Grandpa, that Charles and Harry, my uncles, were playing on a log raft? They must have done this a thousand times before, but this time, Uncle Charles slipped between the logs and drowned.

I couldn't find his grave.

And hunger! One of mom's relatives told me a couple of decades ago at a family picnic for that side of the family that they had known hunger. But they would always go to Violet, Grandma, and ask for food. He told me she would tell them to go get something for her to cook. They'd get birds or fish or shell fish and Grandma Violet would cook it up for them. They didn't have a lot of dairy back then, I guess it was during the big war, but Grandma made sure they didn't go hungry.
[After taking the above photos, I ran into an elderly gent walking a Corgy. I asked if he'd been around here for long, and he said only three years. He was Cherokee, a half breed, none the less, and he had family that walked their "Trail of Tears." Some of his family died on that trail. He also knew of the Siletz Trail of Tears as well. Some of his family returned back to Georgia so he had family on both Cherokee land bases.

During our conversation an Indian fellow walked by. He looked back at me and kept walking. He seemed familiar but since I was talking with an elder, I didn't want to be disrespectful and remove my attention from him.]

And you wound up on this lot, but not in this house. The old rotted house you lived in is now gone. It was here that you lived when you died. I remember your last visit. You visited us up in Portland. You had told Grandma you had to see your son one more time before you died.

Dad took me out that day, and brought me home where you hid just on the other side of the forier and jumped out and scared the living shit out of me, and then I jumped for joy for the Love I felt for you. I don't remember too much of that visit, but I remember you sitting on a dining room chair, asleep, snoring. I stared for a long time wondering how you could stay up on the thing without falling off.
Your house is at the end of the street on the right.

I remember when Aunt Alice stepped on her brakes when I was in the back of the car. I slammed my face on the floor and still have two scars on my cheek. This was before seat belt laws.

I remember dad coming home drunk one evening, parking our car on the other side of the street and passing out behind the wheel. He pressed the gas pedal to the floor sending the engine to maximum revs and scaring the shit out of everyone. They all went running out to get dad out of the car. I remember them dragging him into the house in a blanket. In his drunken stupor, passed out, there was a smile on his face.

"And so it goes."
