Rape is always an issue ALL women are aware of. Shusli tells me she has to worry about being sexually assaulted and was almost raped a couple of times in her life. Many of my women friends have to face down regular sexual assaults from their male colleagues. Statistics state that one third of all women HAVE BEEN RAPED.
And here, we see it going on in the military as well. TruthOut has an article about the gender panel of Winter Soldier hasn't received all that much notice, and was the only panel that was argued against for this program, though they did get on.
Some American soldiers have not only raped Iraqi girls like Abeer Qasim al Janabi, but also rape many of their female comrades. Janice Karpinski came forth with information stating that at least four women under her command died of dehydration because they feared having to go to the bathroom at night for fear of getting raped, so they didn't take any liquids in the afternoons and evenings.
And this week, women will be testifying before Congress about their being raped under the watchful eye of Halliburton subsidiary, Kellogg Brown and Root (KBR). Here, prior to taking the job, they have to sign papers stating they will not litigate against the company for any reason. I guess that means that their being raped adds to the profits gained by the company.
I won't tell you the kind of justice I think rapists deserve.
