This is Allia, also known as Alley Cat. Her personality has been developing as she has become more comfortable in our home. Mostly, she is an attention whore. She loves to be petted until she drools. We have been teasing her a little since Yeti loves to bring us little treasures (rose petals, leaves, occasional branches, Alley Cat has brought us nothing...until last night.
While I was sitting on the couch reading and Rhonda reading at the computer, Alley Cat comes in with a present for us. I thought, "Oh shit! She killed a baby bird." Then I noticed the little creature was still alive. Rhonda immediately started nurturing the little guy, mother that she is. She found out what to feed the little creature and how to do it. So we set him up a little nest and started feeding the little guy. We both felt he would not make it through the night and we went to sleep.
Rhonda got up to get ready for work and came into the bedroom at about 5:30 to show me that not only was the little guy still alive, he was stronger than he was last night and his eyes were open now.
I'm kinda stuck at home today, but I don't mind too much. I've been feeding the little guy since Rhonda left for work. I got him out of his nest to get a little exercise. He flapped his wings and attempted to walk around a bit.
We're still not sure if the little guy is gonna make it, but he sure is looking strong.
Alley was very gentle witht he bird. She didn't try to kill it. What I believe may have happened was the little guy fell out of the nest, as active as he gets from time to time, and Alley (who has shown NO signs of liking to climb), picked him up and brought him home for us to deal with. She occasionally likes to check on him herself and shows no intention of wanting to do the little guy harm. Sweet little kittie!
